In March 2024, my wife, 2 boys (5 and 7) and I took a 2-day Aral Odyssey Tour. Our guide Fariza and driver Nurzhan were exceptional, and all our meal and overnight hosts were very hospitable. The journey included seeing and experiencing a variety of natural phenomena, walking barefoot on sand dunes, soaking in thermal fountains, walking on seabed, climbing rusty shipwrecks, cuddling newborn camels, playing soccer with local kids, ... tasting for the first time camel meat and camel-milk butter, and a very tasty fresh local fish ... visiting local museum of Aral Sea and a newly opened Geopark office were pleasant gems to learn more about recent and geological history of the regions. In summary, 2-days, hundreds of photos, and life-long memories!

The tour was made with a new and good car, my driver guide was very kind and friendly and has had a very good knowledge about the history of that area. The landscape is beautifull, especially the mountain area. We saw a lot of horses and camels, as well as one fox. The offered Lunch in a guesthouse was very tasteful.

I can highly recommend that daytrip.

In September 2024, I was fortunate to go on a photo expedition through the fascinating region of the Aral Sea.
I visited places such as Tastubek, Akespe, and Akbasty — villages with an incredible atmosphere and people whose way of life is truly inspiring.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to our guide, Yedige — a true professional, a knowledgeable and attentive guide, and simply a wonderful person. Thanks to his help and in-depth knowledge of the area, I was able to capture rare and authentic moments of everyday life around the Aral Sea, visit remote locations, and gain a deeper understanding of the local culture.

I was particularly impressed by Yedige’s individual approach — any challenge that came up during the shoot was quickly and efficiently resolved. Because of this, I was not only able to create a rich photo archive, but also experience the region’s traditions, cuisine, and way of life.

The trip was so exciting and inspiring that I returned in January 2025 for a second round of shooting — this time in winter. The Aral Sea in winter is completely different: severe, captivating, and magical in its own way. It's a special season that reveals the region from a new perspective.

Who knows — maybe it wasn’t my last expedition to this unique land. 🙂

Sincerely,
Andrii K.
